Gourmet Geezers

Strange things happen to men of a certain age. Yes, we have less on top but more in other places. We have seen a lot, done a lot, talked a lot and heard a lot. But we don’t have to listen to the advice of others anymore, because we are free at last to be ourselves. To others we can seem a little grumpy, but we are not like that all the time; indeed we have our moments of joy and conviviality.

Some of our best moments of joy and conviviality are when we get together as a group to cook. We are the Gourmet Geezers of Haslemere, who have put together a cookbook of about a hundred of our favourite recipes that we have cooked by ourselves for ourselves.

We have had a great time preparing, cooking and eating. Our greatest hope is that some of the fun we had can be shared with you. Take a look at our sample menus from our recipes and learn more about us, as possible future chefs of the year!

Oh, perhaps the most important thing to note, is that all profits from the sale of the book will be donated to our chosen local charity the Hunter Centre, which supports those living with dementia.

In one of our Christmas skits, where we play hosts to our wives and partners by cooking a splendid four course Christmas lunch, we played the roles of the cast of Dad’s Army, planning a ‘thank you’ dinner for all of our wives for supporting us in our Home Guard activities, with many of the classic lines like ”Stupid boy”, “ Permission to speak, Sir –I’d like to volunteer to ...” and “My sister Dollie makes lovely cucumber sandwiches” woven into the script”
